Technologies

Focused shock waves and radial pressure waves have distinct and well-defined physical characteristics. Each of these technologies have specific therapeutic indications and shared indications. New technologies such as diamagnetic generators and single crystal piezoelectrics are options of therapeutic interest.

Definitions

Focused shockwaves

They are defined as an abrupt change in pressure that propagates at a speed greater than that of sound through the medium in which it runs. They are characterized by presenting a wide frequency range (from approximately 150 kHz to 100 MHz), high pressure amplitude (up to 150 MPa) with a short rise time and small pulse width; followed by a low stress wave (up to -25 MPa). It can be generated by generators (electrohydraulic, electromagnetic and piezoelectric)

Radial pressure waves

Sound waves with pressures up to 30 MPa and much longer rise times than focal shock waves of about 3 µs (ballistic generators)

Level of risk

The different physical characteristics between radial and focal waves determine different levels of risk. This is recognized by scientific societies that have developed knowledge of shock waves, by physicists and bioengineers who have studied the subject without commercial bias, and by techno-surveillance agencies.
